Info

The large monumental central park is designed as the central focal point- part of a large business district spread over 67 acre. It is proposed at the centre of the district – at the crossroad of two primary axis joining Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The central square is proposed to act a as an urban landmark at a city scale by catering as a grand public realm.

The central square and peripheral transport routes are integrated to respond to the Ahmedabad Urban Development authority’s (AUDA) development plan as well as future densities and balanced growth pattern. Specialized urban and infrastructure aspects such as detailed transport studies, street sections, urban lighting, etc are evaluated for the making of a visionary square for all.

Responding to the hot and dry weather of Ahmedabad, indigenous trees with large canopies are proposed, wherein the square facilitates continuous visual vistas along the business district. At the centre of the square, a towering monument is proposed to act as the landmark focal of the district. A shallow water body with bubbler jets is designed around the monument providing a soothing micro climate for social gathering. The square is interconnected to peripheral development through subways provided with small retail and food units promoting micro street culture. The combination of shaded and open area provides large spaces for open public social activities. These open spaces can not only cater to outdoor corporate events and shows, but also hold public cultural Indian events such as Kite festival, food festival, Navratri and local social events.  The design also seeks to integrate a controlled informal-temporary vendors along pedestrian walkways to promote a lively cultural fabric during dusk and dawn.
